Ukraine President Volodomyr Zelensky has once again stood before the United Nations and asked world leaders to unite against Russia’s aggression. Putin’s horrific war continues to threaten European stability as the incursion closes in on two years without a visible end. Countries are divided on how to best proceed. We checked in with a Ukrainian soldier, currently serving at the frontline, for his perspectives. He replied anonymously:

Where are you now and why are you there?
I am in the Ukrainian armed forces because where else would I be? My country is facing an existential threat so I have to be among those who will take a stand for the future of our nation , our homeland , and our children.

During this war what have you lost? What have you acquired?
I have lost some bad habits. I have lost fake friends. I have also lost good friends. I have also forged new bonds of friendship with some of the best humans on this planet.

Western media often describes Russian soldiers as disorganized and poorly equipped. Is this how you perceive the enemy from the frontline?
No, I see Russian troops as strong fighters. One should never underestimate the enemy. Russians are tough and ruthless. They are well-prepared and equipped. However, they are the oppressors and they came to the wrong place. They should have stayed home and made their own country a better place for their children.

What can help Ukraine to win all of its land back from occupiers?
Long range, high-precision weapons and other modern defense technologies are critical components to victory. And hard work.

A few words to Western allies?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. United we stand!
