Craig Cutright

Artist Craig Cutright eliminates the background noise, leaving you laser-focused on the people he paints. His minimalist approach has us dreaming about illustrations too! Craig's ink-on-paper pieces scream 'The New Yorker’ vibes louder than a jazz band in Times Square. And let's face it, with the magazine itching for a makeover, maybe Craig's cover illustration could be the stylish shake-up it's been craving. So, we just had to ask him:

Your paintings are beautiful! We’r also bonkers about your ink on paper. Have you considered illustrating for magazines?

Thank you! Although I haven’t given that consideration in a direct sense, I’ve certainly thought about possible uses specific to storytelling. While I love portrait painting, simplistic illustrations allow for greater breadth when conveying narratives, so there’s no doubt a connection.

If you had to describe yourself with one word, what would it be?

Evolving.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how terrified are you to fly on any Boeing aircraft at the moment?

Let’s just say I’d be evaluating other options, especially if it’s a 737 Max!

If you could party with one movie character, who would it be?

Hmm. A movie character is a tough one but if we open the question to television, then I'd have to go with Kelli from the TV series Insecure. She’s hilarious!

What do you think can finally bring world peace?

Sadly, that’s hard to fathom with the current state of the world. Perhaps it starts with taking control of the things we can, presently, like nurturing inner peace and adopting a love ethic within our daily lives that leads to compassion for others.
